My father was in Indian Navy and since childhood I was fascinated with Warships. I could not make it to the Navy and missed the chance to be on a warship.
In May 2018, while I was in Kochi for a Toastmaster conference, I happen to meet a lieutenant (name withheld on request), staying in the same hotel as us. A casual acquaintance transformed into friendship and an invitation to visit the grand warship of Indian Navy followed.
I booked the ticket on very first chance I got and dashed to Kochi once again. I wanted to see the ship and wanted my sons to have an experience, which they may or may not get ever in future.
Though I have been on Vikrant earlier, being on romeo 33 (as INS Vikramaditya is known as) was awesome and nothing short of an exuberting experience. The ship is like a township in its own right with multiple floors and vastness.
Walking towards the front of the ship, we saw our tricolor, erect with pride, which it passes on to anyone standing beneath.
The Lieutenant shared so many anecdotes and stories about the ship and explained to us the capability of the warhorse, many of which, I am not sure If can share further, but it was fun to hear those stories.
Overall it was an experience, I will cherish and I am sure my sons too will remember the visit.
Thanks a lot lieutenant.
